LED spotlights are ideal for when a more focused light is needed, such as in kitchens and other workspaces. The most common type of spotlight is the GU10 (an acronym that refers to the bulb's fitting), but there are other options, such as GU5.3 and MR16 bulbs, which are often found in integrated light fittings. Choose GU10 LED bulbs as a direct no-fuss replacement. However, if you think that an electrician may have installed low wattage halogen bulbs, there may be a ‘driver’ in place that could dictate the best-fit LED replacement.
LED spotlights are much more energy efficient and last a lot longer than traditional halogen bulbs. They output the same amount of light but use only a fraction of the power to do so. The majority are made from heat-resistant thermal plastic, but there are glass-bodied alternatives that look more like traditional bulbs. The beam angle of a spotlight makes a big difference to how it lights a room. The narrower the beam angle, the less surface area that the spotlight covers. For example, an LED spotlight with a beam angle of 40° would be ideal for lighting small areas, or objects in a room, while a light with a beam angle of 120° would be much more suited to general lighting applications.
